On Saturday evening 37 members and guests attended the Merlin Party to watch filmed races, laying bets on which runners would win and loudly encouraging their favoured steeds while enjoying a 3 course meal. In total, the evening raised £490 for the Royal Marsden Hospital. The event was organised by Jim Green and our Merlin captain, Joe Woods, who was suitably attired in jockey’s racing silks (see picture). They were ably assisted by David and Deb Baker and Bonnie Green. Thanks to Jo Carstens, Theo and Lauren for producing an excellent meal and staffing the bar.
There were seven races in total with six visits to the horses and one to the dog track. The third race of the evening was the Richard Mourant Memorial Stakes won by Jeremy Humphrey who received a bottle of pink fizz following a tie break.
