Tamesis Cadets take part in Source to Sea Relay

Tamesis Cadets took part in the Source to Sea Relay on Saturday 30 August in which a bottle of water from the source of the Thames is carried downstream to the mouth of the river. This is the second year in which they have taken part in the event. They left Tamesis at 13.30 and were towed up to Thames SC where they met the Ditton Skiff Club opposite Ravens Ait to collect the bottle and then sailed it to Teddington Lock where they handed it over to the Lock Keeper.

Tamesis Club’s new Wayfarer to be launched by Vince Cable MP

The new Wayfarer sailing dinghy which is to be used for training new members how to sail is to be officially launched at Tamesis Club at 15.00 on Saturday 6 September by the Rt Hon Vince Cable, Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills, and MP for Twickenham. The name of the Wayfarer, funded by Sport England and the National Lottery, is to be chosen by the members of the Tamesis Cadet fleet. The Minister will be accompanied by his wife. Richard Harris wins last of the 2014 Thursday evening races

The last of this year’s summer Thursday evening handicap races for the G W Smith Trophy on 28 August was won by Richard and Sue Harris in Passing Cloud, Merlin 1079. They led the 17 strong fleet throughout, completing four rounds of a Canbury-Lensbury plus north-south dogleg course in 35 minutes in a light to moderate SW wind. The leading Laser, Greylag (188044) was sailed by Donald Forbes. The fleet was made up of four Merlins, five Lasers, three National 18s, two Fireflies, two Toppers and an Albacore.

No sailing today, bad rain!

What should have been a busy Bank Holiday race turned out to be a rather wet and grey day. Donald and Nick Forbes were the only ones to came down and rig, but took the right decision by staying warm and dry instead. The only ones who braved the weather were Kaan and Rupert on launch, who having placed the bottom mark by the lock in the rain then had to go back out to retrieve it… in the rain.
