Spring Regatta 17 May

  The Tamesis Spring Regatta will be held on Sunday 17 May with racing in both the morning and afternoon. There is a copy of the Notice of Race below. There will be races for National 18s, Merlins, Fireflies, Lasers, Toppers and handicap class boats. The first start is at 11.15 and there will be two races in the afternoon, starting at 13.45 and 15.15. Entry fees are £10 for the series or £4 per race. The best two of the three races count for prizes. Lunch and tea will be provided and the bar will be open.

Push the Boat Out Day a great success

   Tamesis Club’s Push the Boat Out day on Saturday 9 May was an outstanding success.  Most of the 87 visitors, including many children, were taken for a sail on the river by experienced helmsmen and many also took a trip in one of the club’s patrol boats or the sleek, fast RIB (rigid inflatable boat) operated by member Falcon Compton, Chief Instructor (Powerboats) at the Tamesis RYA Recognised Training Centre. Ladies Night at Tamesis

Tamesis member captured by pirates

Tamesis member Brian Harper-Lewis was captured by pirates on the early afternoon of Monday 4 May.  He reported that he was forcibly obliged to sit in a boat with a glass of wine in his hand while he was taken away for the whole of the afternoon and incarcerated at the Anglers. Brian, who lives on Trowlock Island just downstream of the Tamesis Clubhouse, said there were 20 of the blighters “including assorted mini-pirates cunningly disguised as children of the friends we’d been skiing with” who plied him with three “or possibly four” pints of London Pride.

JOIN THE ODYSSEY BALL!

The N18 Fleet aims to have decent participation in all of three of the National 18 championships, including by our Ultimates.  However, we will fairly shortly have Ultra Odyssey at Tamesis.  In addition to getting new ‘young’ people sailing her at Tamesis, we also want to have her sailing in the N18 championships.  We want as strong a crew as possible for each championship.  We also if possible want to ‘spread the wealth’ with potentially different crews sailing in each championship, given chronologically below: • English National Championship (Bosham Sailing Club) – Sunday 5th July (after Bosham Regatta on Saturday
