TAMESIS OFFSHORE RALLY 1st August

JACK’S 41st TRIP THE TAMESIS OFFSHORE RALLY SATURDAY, 1st August 2015 This year’s rally is for the Offshore Cup, originally presented by the late Jack Tuson, will take place on the day that Tamesis Club will be inaccessible due to the all day cycling event that will close so many of the roads in Kingston and Richmond. The 10 mile course for the cruising boats will probably run from Gleeds outside Portsmouth to a suitable mark near Hamble Point, aiming to finish shortly before low tide at 1800 BST, weather permitting. Sunglasses

I have mislaid a pair of prescription sunglasses and may have left them at the club between about one and two weeks ago. They were in a hard case with a red neoprene retaining strap. I would love to locate them. Stewart Colley     28th June 2015

Teddington Village Fair

Tamesis showed the flag again this year at the Teddington Fair. It was pretty quiet in the rain at the start, with Chris Pollard  and Steve Katz manning our stand, but the Laser generated loads of interest when the sun came out! Jeremy Vines overall winner of ISC rating system yachts in Round the Island Race

Jeremy Vines was the overall winner of the Island Sailing Club’s ISC rating system entry as well as winning Group 5 and Division 5C in his Dufour 34 Pickle (GBR9585T) in the Club’s annual race round the Isle of Wight on Saturday 27 June. Jeremy and his crew took seven hours and 17 minutes to sail the 50 mile course in a moderate westerly wind. They beat the second boat in their division by more than 15 minutes. Tamesis Summer Party a Great Success

The Tamesis Summer Party on Saturday 20 June was declared a great success despite several unexpected problems. It rained. Not a great inducement to enjoy mid-summer’s eve on the Club lawn where tables and chairs had been carefully placed under canvas canopies for members to enjoy a drink. Then there was what can only be described as the asparagus challenge. An over-hot oven in the kitchen turned to mush the asparagus that was being lovingly cooked to go with the smoked salmon for the first course. Tamesis successes at Minima Merlin meeting

Matthew Peregrine-Jones and Ben Ramage were second sailing Masquerade (995) in Minima YC’s De May Series race in vintage Merlins for the Chindit Trophy on Saturday 20 June. Ken Duffell and Joe Woods were third in Harry (3599) in the Thames Series race for the Eric Archer Memorial Trophy on Sunday 21 June. Seven Merlins took part.
