ODYSSEY SHOWS THE WAY

  Odyssey, number 400, the prototype of the newly adopted ‘Ultra’ design of National 18, ably sailed by Joe & Tom McLaughlin, won On-the-Water Cup at the well attended UK Inland Championship at Tamesis Club on 26th September by a clear margin … with three bullets. The win, in very light airs, put paid to any questions on whether the fairly flat aft section Ultras could perform well in these light conditions. BRAGANZA BOWL to Spindrift

On Sunday 20th September in glorious summer weather the classic Thames “A” Rater fleet completed their annual Braganza Bowl/Yates Cup regatta at Tamesis Club with Martin Hunter’s SPINDRIFT taking both trophies. The three Sunday races were sailed in a fickle south-westerly that sometimes flicked into various directions of the compass. The fleet sailed three different courses, in front of Tamesis Club and also (the second of the day) upstream onto the Kingston reach, where a south-westerly is often funnelled – but the strength of the wind on Sunday was low, making for challenging conditions and putting a premium on light-weather

SPINDRIFT takes Yates Cup

In a close-fought race at Tamesis Club today Martin Hunter’s SPINDRIFT took first place and the historic Yates Cup, first presented in 1908. On a bright sunny day with a light variable northerly breeze the eight “A” class Raters made a stunning addition to the river vista at Tamesis. The Yates Cup race was the third in a 6-race series held over this weekend for the Braganza Bowl, another historic silver cup first presented in 1904. Rob and Milly Wilder second overall at Bosham

  Over the weekend of the 5th & 6th of September Bosham SC held the classic boat revival which is now in its fifth year and open to boats designed before 1965. Rob’s  daughter Milly missed the first week back for Cadets to sail with him in his Merlin Rocket 1097, Flinkidink, which was was built in 1959.  It was Milly’s first sail on the sea. On the Saturday they managed to finish 2nd, 7th and 10th in the fast fleet, which had a 23 boat entry and a range of boats from National 18s, Hornets, 12 sqm Sharpies, Fireballs & National 12s along with some other
