Peter and Richard Mason win the Restless Trophy

Peter and Richard Mason won the Restless Trophy in convincing fashion today. The Trophy is awarded to the first Merlin in the club race which takes place on the Sunday of Merlin Week at Salcombe, which is very popular with Tamesis merlins. Three boats took part.  To begin with the racing was very close with the Masons and David Baker crewed by Caroline Stilwell in Andromeda were neck and neck. The Masons sailing Bambusa drew away in the third round of five, to win by a minute. The race had to be postphoned as the wind dropped before the normal

Tamesis Summer Party a Great Success

The Tamesis Summer Party on Saturday 20 June was declared a great success despite several unexpected problems. It rained. Not a great inducement to enjoy mid-summer’s eve on the Club lawn where tables and chairs had been carefully placed under canvas canopies for members to enjoy a drink. Then there was what can only be described as the asparagus challenge. An over-hot oven in the kitchen turned to mush the asparagus that was being lovingly cooked to go with the smoked salmon for the first course. First RYA certificates awarded

Eric Finlayson was very pleased to present the first two RYA Level 1 sailing certificates to new members Adam Nagy and Ned Thomas on Sunday. The boys completed the four day course, on Sunday morning and went out again to prove they could do it! Bank Holiday Race at Tamesis

Five boats turned out for the Bank Holiday Monday Race at Tamesis – Two National 18s, one Albacore, two merlins and one Topper in a fluky north westerly.  The race was managed by Peter Fryer assisted by Richard Robinson in the box and Rupert Fletcher and James Berry in the launch.  Anna Finney provided ploughmans lunch with tortilla and ran the bar.  Many thanks to them all.  We had a lovely day.  Photos by Debbie Pope
