The Queen Adelaide Cup, was presented by Queen Adelaide in the presence of King William iV in 1831 for the winner of the Gig racing at the Sailing Society (to become the Royal Sailing Society in 1832). Each year, Tamesis Eighteens still race for the second Queen Adelaide Cup presented in 1832. In those days, the winners actually kept the cup! Tamesis’ Cup was passed on by a nephew of the original winner. The venerable Bourne End Queens Cup was presented in the 1890’s.
