Merlin Rocket Horse Racing Night

More than 50 punters, including visitors from Thames Sailing Club, Lensbury Sailing Club and Teddington Probus, gathered  in the Tamesis clubhouse on Saturday 18 April to enjoy a lively night of horse racing.  The event was organised by Merlin Fleet Captain Richard Mourant but. following his very sad passing away, the re-scheduled night was run by Jim Green and his helpers.  The event was dedicated to Richard and the evening was opened by Jim proposing a toast to Richard’s memory.  Excellent food was prepared by Jo and her team and this was a perfect accompaniment to a series of filmed horse races which set the clubhouse alive with desperate shouts of encouragement for the ‘nags’ on which the punters had placed bets.  A great time was had by all and, through the generosity of members and visitors, over £600 was raised for the Princess Alice Hospice in Esher where Richard spent his last few days.
