Well the sailing on Sunday certainly made for good spectator sport, and was enjoyed by all who took part. Congratulations to the newer members who had a go, but ended up very wet!
A number of us attended Eileen Newman’s very moving funeral service on Friday.
Brian Southcott’s funeral will be at 12noon at Mortlake Crematorium and after at Tamesis.
A couple of weeks back I wrote about the River Thames Boat Project charity starting to use our Office in February. Their staff will be moving in on Friday 1st February and will be working in the Office 9 to 5 weekdays. This is great for us as it means we have a presence at the club during the week.
Just as a reminder they run educational cruises on their two boats, the Thames Venturer and Thames Discoverer, which are usually moored at Teddington Lock and Kingston respectively. Please look at their website https://thamesboatproject.org/ for more information about what they do.
We are very pleased to enter into the agreement as the arrangement will have considerable advantages for both organisations. We will receive a rental income, have a presence at the club during the week, which will improve our security, and a higher profile with local organisations, including the schools and youth groups who are amongst RTBP’s clients. They are very pleased to get an office which is so close to their boats.
Both the Tamesis and Boat Project websites will be updated to include links to the other’s site and we will also explore, with them, other ways in which we can help to promote each other’s services. We anticipate that this could result in more new members.
To accommodate this new situation, we have had to move all the race organisation materials and patrol boat kit out of the Office to various locations around the Club. OODs are being advised of the current whereabouts of the kit in the advance e-mail which they get from Dutyman.
