Members were given a fascinating talk on the history of Eel Pie Island by staff member Celia and our old friend Clive Burton. The story went from the early 17th Century to the present day.
The hotel ballroom was where The Rolling Stones, Long John Baldry and Rod Stewart started their careers – to name but a few.
The Island now contains several artist’ studios, which host an open day in the summer and at Christmas.
One of the Island’s best known residents was inventor Trevor Bayliss.
More info on their website www.eelpiemuseum.co.uk.
We still don’t know if there was really an Eel Pie shop on the island!!
