It is with great sorrow that I have to report that Peter Simpson died in Kingston Hospital on Saturday after a short illness. Peter was a very long-time member of the Club and a dedicated Merlin sailor and ex-Commodore. Details of his funeral arrangements will be circulated as soon as they are known. A full obituary follows.
To more cheerful matters, this Sunday’s sailing took place in more clement weather than the previous two Sundays and a good turnout for both the Handicap race and the Class races enjoyed sunshine and a reasonable breeze.
Coming up this Saturday is the Merlin Party which is definitely not restricted to Merlin sailors and there is still time to sign up for this event if you have not done so already. See the poster on the Tamesis website.
Next Sunday is the National 18 Spring Challenge and we are hoping to see several of the new 18s competing.
It will also be Mothering Sunday and there will be a Roast Chicken Lunch with roast potatoes and veg. plus a pudding available. It isn’t necessary to book but, if you wish to, let Nicky Johnson know you intend to have the roast lunch to give us an idea of likely numbers.
Looking further into the future, Thursday 4th April sees our last Club Supper and Talk of the season. This month the Boat Project Team, now established in the Club Office, will tell us about what it does, its history and the future plans of this 30 year-old charity. Sign up in the Clubhouse, or email firstname.lastname@example.org. There will be a two course supper as usual at £10pp and don’t forget to make sure any dietary requirements are advised.
We will be putting on our Push the Boat Out open day on Saturday 11th May. Please put this in your diaries, and bring down any family or friends you may think would like to have a go at sailing. Volunteers for the day please email Carolyne on email@example.com
Early notice of the Tamesis Summer Party on Saturday 22nd June. Roy Doughty’s old band is booked, plans are advancing. We want to set up a ’Summer Party Committee’ to do the organising and We Need You to join us if you are able to help – no experience necessary, just a willingness to get involved. Please let Nicky Johnson know on firstname.lastname@example.org or 07798810762. We are really keen to get as many people as possible involved so please make the effort.
Finally, our cleaner (Tina) will not be able to clean our Clubhouse during April and May. Unfortunately our two reserve cleaners are also unable to help. Does anyone know of someone who might be able to assist us? The Club is usually cleaned on a Thursday morning, 2–3 hours, but I’m sure we could work out alternative timings if necessary. Please let Nicky Johnson know if you have any suggestions.
