Tammy Matters

Firefly Weekend 27/28th April.  Sadly the Firefly Junior Racing on Saturday had to be cancelled due to a forecast of high winds.  In the event the wind was even more boisterous than the forecast to the extent that no racing was possible.

Fortunately the wind abated overnight and the Elizabeth Cup races were run as planned with a good North Westerly breeze.  It was pleasing to see four Tamesis entries out of the total of seven.  See the full report with the results is available on the website.

Officer of the Day Training. Jim Green and David Baker ran the second of their OOD/Box training courses for six members. This course has proved useful to the participants and it is proposed that further courses will be run.  If you would like to enrol in one, watch out for further information.

This week:

Saga Trophy.  Thursday evening handicap racing starts this week, on 2nd May.  Normally about 5 races are needed to qualify for this Trophy which is open to all classes.  See the article on the website.

As usual the starting sequence begins at 19.10, with the main fleet start at 19.15 and the N18 start at 19.17.  Supper will be available for participants and spectators at about 20.45 (or so) – book in the Clubhouse or by e-mail to nickyjohnsontamesis@gmail.com .

The 10.30 Handicap and Summer Series Class Racing are as normal on Sunday.

Cadets start – Saturday 4 May

The Tamesis junior sailors will be able to start Cadet sailing on Saturday afternoon 4th May.  This is a great fun way for our younger members to have some time on the water and make friends.  Andy Harris and other volunteers will be providing informal coaching and the opportunity to practice racing drills such as starts, mark rounding etc.  There is a usually a tea afterwards and inevitably some jumping in the river!

Next week:

Minima YC May Merrie.  On Monday 6th May, Minima YC will be running their annual May Merrie.  This is a unique opportunity to participate in a long distance race up the river and back.  Please see the Minima YC website for more details.’

Push the Boat Out.  –  Saturday 11th May

This is our major open day when we hope to attract new members by giving them a view of what the Club can offer.  To help with this we are looking for two, maybe three, to help with the BBQ.  Please let Nicky Johnson know if you can help.

We would also like to put out a call for members to make some cakes for the day.  Again, let Nicky know if you can do some baking.

Carolyne Vines is also looking for general helpers.  We have leaflets for distribution to friends and neighbourhoods which are down at the club. We are already leafletting the local roads round the club but it would be good to get leaflets further afield. We will also be contacting local schools. This has always been a great day in the past.  Let’s make it another great day this year. Any volunteers please email Carolyne on cvines6285@aol.com

SUMMER PARTY – Saturday 22nd June –  Urgent Notice

You may not have noticed yet that in our Programme we have the Summer Party scheduled on 22nd June.  The band is already booked and we are currently doing costings to work out viability and minimum numbers we would need.  We are still trying to put together a committee to arrange all the details and are looking for volunteers to help with this.

The party is open to family and friends – they do not have to be Club members.  However, we need to get a good idea of how many would like to come to the party, as soon as possible, to ensure its viability.  Please let us know what style of party you would like by email to nickyjohnsontamesis@gmail.com or leave a message in the Rear Commodore’s pigeonhole.  If we have to cancel the band we need to do so very soon so please let us know now.
