Last Week 14th to 20th April
On Saturday I went to collect the post – but there was none. I had a comprehensive walk around and all seemed to be as it should be.
Sunday 19th April. Another beautiful day in lockdown.
Club Remote Activity
Racing – Virtual Regatta Race Series
Virtual Regatta continues to attract a fair proportion of the Club’s racing members plus a few potential cadets. A routine of two racing days a week, Thursday evening and Sunday morning, has been established with the Thursday evening session scheduled to start at 20:05, after the Thursday Clap and other loud expressions of appreciation for all Key Workers. The Sunday session is scheduled to start at 10:30. Each session is planned to have three races. Any changes to this pattern will be broadcast via the Tamesis Club Sailing WhatsApp group.
These initial Regattas have been well patronised and are showing the way forward for well-developed leagues to fill in the period until we race properly again.
The last week has seen a dedicated group of racers engage in the four e-Sailing series that the Club is staging. A close analysis of the results from week two show that, whilst the youngsters had it their own way for the first week, it is clear that they are now coming under pressure from older, although maybe less tech-savvy, heads. At the halfway point, it is all to play for. See News for a full report and the latest standings.
NORs and access codes for races will be published via the Tamesis Club Sailing WhatsApp group.
50% of races run in each series will count which means, if you are unable to join a particular race, keep trying for the next one.
Anyone who hasn’t tried Virtual Regatta can download the App and have some practice. To join in please follow these steps:
Register on the Virtual Regatta Inshore website. The web address is: https://www.virtualregatta.com/en/ . You can access this site from your Mac or PC and also download the App to your phone or tablet. Registering is free and you do not need to buy anything during games.
Future Club on-the-water racing activity will be announced as soon as the Government’s coronavirus restrictions are lifted sufficiently to permit it.
Eric is sending out On-Line Training by e-mails to those who are signed up to his Training programme. If anyone is not receiving these but would like to, please let Eric know via the Training contact on our website and he can include you on his address list. Scroll to the bottom of this Bulletin to see his latest Training in News.
During this time of enforced Club closure we are looking to facilitate communication between Club Members and to tailor the means to the purpose of the communication. The most immediately useful-looking techniques are WhatsApp groups for general contact and arranging sailing and Zoom for video contacts.
The ‘Tamesis Club Sailing’ group gets highly animated when the group engaged in the Virtual Regatta is active. When normal sailing is resumed this Group is designed to help helms find crews and vice-versa.
The ‘Tamesis Club‘ group is intended for use by Officers to broadcast important and urgent information to all members who are signed-up to the group. Less urgent information will be communicated in the weekly publication of Tammy Matters. The ability to post messages to this group is restricted to Officers of the Club.
A reminder that Kaan put out an e-mail, sent from ‘Tamesis Club’ on 29th March, giving the necessary links to join either or both groups. There are currently 76 Members signed-up to Tamesis Club and 59 Members signed-up to Tamesis Club Sailing. The more who sign up the better our ability to keep you quickly in touch with any developments.
I strongly encourage Club Members to join both WhatsApp groups. Please go to the e-mails and join the WhatsApp groups.
We are also going to experiment with running Committees using the Zoom App. This App should allow us to run remote group meetings or have face to face chats and we will see how well this works out.
Next Sunday’s ‘Tammy Natters’ social at Phil’s Bar will be initiated by Zoe Adams. If you would like to catch up with some people you haven’t seen for a while “at Phil’s Bar”, the weekly Tammy Natters session will happen on Zoom, at 1pm on Sundays. Here are this Sunday’s joining details:
Tammy Natters: April 26th, 2020 at 01:00 PM London
Join Zoom Meeting
Meeting ID: 728 392 2113
The Clubhouse is closed until further notice. Some improvements will be effected during the closure.
Pilates on Monday mornings will not take place again at the Club until the Clubhouse re-opens. However, Joanne, the Pilates teacher who does the Monday classes at the Club, has set up an on-line class at 10:30 on Mondays and Wednesdays, £5 per person per session on Zoom. If anyone would like any more information they can contact Nicky Johnson on email@example.com
Members are strongly advised to follow the Government advice on coronavirus avoidance techniques and to keep themselves fit (Pilates group, Joe Wicks on U tube, etc.) for resuming normal life.
