River Thames Boat Project Talk 24th March 2022

The club was very pleased to host a presentation by the River Thames Boat Project last Thursday evening.

Alaphia treated us to an excellent Chicken Curry with all the trimmings, followed by  Poivre Belle Helene.

Kate Dodds, for the charity began the talk, showing us slides including some  of their two boats – the original Dutch Barge Thames Venturer and the newer Thames Discoverer.  She explained their remit –

“River Thames Boat Project’s mission is to make the Thames accessible.  We provide cruises for people of all ages with disabilities and older people as well as environmental education days for primary school children.  The two community boats are wheelchair accessible.  We subsidise the cost of our days on the river through grants, donations and our own fundraising.”

She then handed over to  Trustee Jon Chapman who elaborated on the the educational role – children from schools spending days on Thames Venturer learning about the environment.  He also crews on Thames Discoverer that takes groups from a wide variety of  charities and organisations for day trips on the Thames.  Following Jon, Chris Deavin, the Chair of Trustees, gave a view of the future aspirations of the Project.

Chris Pollard, our Commodore thanked the Project for an inspiring evening.
