Junior Sailing

1376993 orig

Tamesis Club hosts a very popular Junior Sailing session on Saturday afternoons 2.30 - 5.00pm between April and October and with a break for the school holidays during the month of August.

Junior Sailing is run by an enthusiastic section of volunteer parents, many of whom themselves are keen sailors and experienced racers. All are welcome to join. Parents are expected to remain at the Club for the duration of the session and pitch in however they can - whether that's helping to launch the safety boat, making teas or baking a cake.

Our emphasis is on creating a fun and family friendly environment by the river and developing our Juniors' sailing and racing skills. We usually get 10-20 children participating most Saturday afternoons during the season.

The Club has its own fleet of 12x Toppers, 5x Lasers, 3x Fevas and 2x Laser 2000s which competent Juniors have full access to on Junior Sailing or Club Racing days.

Every year we have a mid-season Junior Regatta and Barbecue and an end-of-season Junior Grand Prix and Bake Off. We also host an annual Topper Open Meeting where we welcome Junior racers from other nearby clubs and some of our more experienced Juniors compete in Local, Regional and National Sailing Championships.

Our Juniors are also encouraged to join Club Racing on Sundays (all year round) or Thursday evenings (May to August) either as skipper of their own or Club boat (usually a Topper or a Laser) or to crew for other Club Members in their Firefly, Enterprise, Merlin Rocket or National 18.

To participate in Junior Sailing your child must be a Club Member, aged 8 years old or above, a competent swimmer, and hold the RYA Dinghy Level 2 certificate or equivalent sailing experience.

We welcome you to come down on a Saturday afternoon during the season to see what the fun is all about.
