Sunny Start to the Summer Series Sunday 14th April

It was a huge relief to be able to actually start the Summer Series on Sunday. The sun shone and the wind had lightened from the day before. The stream was still strong enough to cause some head scratching, especially at the marks. OOD Charles Fox set a starboard hand loop, with and upstream start. The Westerly came and went and sometimes was strong enough for competitors to plane!

The Blue series had a total of three Lasers, two Merlins and one Enterprise who hadn't had enough sailing the day before. Rob and Lu Hatley flew out of the start and increased their lead, winning by a considerable margin. John Kemp making a welcome return won the Lasers, Peter Impey and Alexey Anatskiy finished one second apart to come second and third. Alison and Cress Cooper were the only National 18'.

The course was the same for the White series. The turnout increased considerably.

Seven Merlins started. Andy and Harris took a while to get to the front, but once there they pulled away to an unassailable lead. John and Zoe Adams lead for the first round but retained second place once the Harris team had passed them. David Baker and Barbara Adams were second at the end of the first round, but were able to retain third place once Andy and Tom had got through.

The Lasers were joined by Peter Konidaris in the White race. The place changing was constant, but Peter Impey won, John was second and Peter third.

Team Cooper were the only National 18' and Peter Bide and Maria enjoyed another race in the Enterprise.

After the race we all enjoyed the sun, drinks from the bar and super sandwiches prepared by Josie and team.
