Sunny Start to the Summer Series Sunday 14th April

It was a huge relief to be able to actually start the Summer Series on Sunday. The sun shone and the wind had lightened from the day before. The stream was still strong enough to cause some head scratching, especially at the marks. OOD Charles Fox set a starboard hand loop, with and upstream start. The Westerly came and went and sometimes was strong enough for competitors to plane!

Enterprise Open 2024 Saturday 13th April

Nine Enterprises took to the water on Saturday. The stream had abated somewhat, and the wind a gusty westerly and all over the place. OOD Marcus Chavasse set a figure of eight course starting upstream. The first of the races was easily won by Iaan and Jo McGregor from Lensbury SC. Fellow Lensbury sailors Chris Rowsell and Teresa Burton were second and Richard Shillitoe crewed by James Budden

  • Thursday Supper and Tech Evening 11th April

Commodore Marcus Chavasse spent some time revealing the mysteries of the members section of the new website last Thursday. That was followed by an excellent supper of Chicken Taragon Pie and salad with a dreamy dessert of panacotta and fruit. A great evening, enjoyed by all. Thanks to Marcus for enlightening us and to Jean Michel for feeding us so well.

Easter Egg Fun and Games 2024 and Capture the Paddle

The stream was yet again too strong to run the programmed Pursuit Race, so the Juniors got together and invented the game 'Capture the Paddle' to play up on the recreation ground. This involved two paddles and teams of approximately 5 each. There was a lot of walking, tagging, and eventually the two paddles ended up the same end. It was impressive to see the age range of the participants. You only needed to be

Last of the Winter Racing - Sunday 24th March

Report by Marcus Chavasse I arrived at the club in the middle of the Blue races, in time to witness a number of capsizes in the lively conditions. A gusty North-Westerly was blowing for these last races of a much-interrupted Winter Series. Matt Valentine won the Blue Laser race ahead of Peter Impey. Rob Hatley crewed by Tim Ginn were ahead of Joe Woods and Ken Duffell in the Merlins and Charles Fox

    Racing Sunday 17th March

The start of the day was very unpromising. The current was too strong for boats to be able to stem the stream with the slight westerly, so the 1030 series of races was cancelled. Come 1130 the wind had strengthened so it was possible to get some sailing in. This was the penultimate Sunday in the Winter series. The course was short well in sight of the club. Sometimes it paid to

    Racing Sunday 10th March

Report by Marcus Chavasse Photos by Chris Wade The Environment Agency seemed to have gone away for the weekend. The last measurement for the flow rate at Kingston was at 08:00 on Friday before the gauge came unstuck. The stream had reduced to an estimated 150m3/s by Sunday morning. However the wind was still rather light from the East. OOD Marcus decided to give the Blue Race a go. After half an hour

    Tamesis Sunday 3rd March

Unfortunately racing on Sunday was cancelled. The decision was made after looking the strength of the stream - at the time the decision was made the flow was over 300m3 per second at Kingston Bridge. There wasn't much wind forecast, and there wasn't much wind on the morning. However, all was not lost as sailmaker Frank Rowsell spent most of the day with merlin owners looking at their sails,
