5th Saga Trophy Race, Thursday 30th May

The last of the May 2024 Saga Trophy races attracted an entry of 9 boats with a variety of classes, 1 Merlin, 4 ILCA7s, 2 Solos, a Topper and a N18.
For a Thursday evening, the wind seemed to reasonably good, both in direction and strength, allowing Chris Taggart the OOD to set K course with a beat downstream and a reach/run upstream.
From the start, Andy and Tom Harris in the Merlin led, a position they held to the finish. However behind him, and not far behind was a good battle between Tim Medcalf in his Solo and Matt P-J in his ILCA7, a battle eventually won by Tim, with Charles Fox and Robert Blakebrough in the N18 crossing the finishing line in 4th, so the first 4 places held by different classes.
The results were slightly different once the Sailwave software had applied the handicaps, with Tim 1st, Matt P-J 2nd and Andy and Tom 3rd. In 4th place and sailing very well indeed was Arthur P-J in his Topper.
The overall results are still to early to call but Tim's run of good results is setting a target for the others.
