Minima Long Distance Race - Tactical Challenges on the Thames
On Monday, 5 May, Tamesis Club sailors participated in the Minima Long Distance Races hosted by Minima Yacht Club. ILCA Class Captain Ilker Sener and Hon. Sailing Secretary Peter Impey took on the challenge, joining a competitive fleet for a gruelling 2.5-hour race up the Thames from Kinsgston to Hampton.
The event proved to be a true test of endurance and strategy. With shifting wind conditions and multiple wind holes to navigate, sailors were pushed to their tactical limits, especially during a couple of very long upwind beats. This year, conditions were excellent for sailing.
The handicap race was closely contested, with just 90 seconds separating the top five boats after corrected times. Victory went to a Minima YC Enterprise, while Ilker secured a strong second place and Peter followed closely in thirdboth sailing ILCA Lasers.
Congratulations to all participants for their excellent performance in a tough and technical race. Tamesis sailors once again demonstrated skill, resilience, and sportsmanship on the river. Our thanks to Minima YC for hosting another fabulous event.
