L&SE Regional Topper Championships, Itchenor SC, 16-17th May 2026

On the 16th of May, five juniors from the Tammy Seals Race Team travelled down to Itchenor for the two-day London & Southeast Regional Championships.
For those that don't know, Itchenor Sailing Club is a really beautiful spot in Chichester Harbour, with a lovely clubhouse and delicious bacon baps!
On the first day, winds got up to 18 knots which made for some really exciting racing! There were some huge gusts, making it quite a challenge for the safety team. Staying upright was difficult enough, let alone thinking about the tide and waves that the team had not sailed in much before.
Unfortunately, Flora S-H's tiller extension broke before the first race. Despite some great effort, it was impossible to sail with such strong winds, so she had to retire from the first day. Luckily, help was on hand to fix it and she was ready to race the next day.
This left Arthur P-J and Toby S-H out on the water, who both managed to keep up with tough regional competition.
34 sailors and their parents went to dinner at the Ship Inn, as a great opportunity to get to know the class off the water.
On the second day, the winds lightened slightly to allow for some great racing with fewer capsizes, and a little more room for strategy.
Everyone had a great time, and are looking forward to the Tammy Topper open meeting on Saturday 6th June (now fully booked!).
