Supper and Talk Thursday 16th April
Published 12:40 on 24 Apr 2026
Last Thursday Andrew Hill-Smith gave a fascinating talk relating stories of his summer sailing around Britain anticlockwise in his Laser. Having done no prior sea sailing, he broke his daggerboard on the first beach landing. We now all know what the fender is for on the bow of his Laser. Some of the video footage near Cape Wrath showed a fortunate choice of weather window. Portland Bill was not so calm.
Andrew has published a full account of his travels and he continues to raise funds for his chosen charities. If you did not have a chance on the night, and would like to purchase the book or contribute to one of the charities please visit Andrew's web page.
The audience had been fortified with an excellent dinner of Tarragon Chicken or Lentil and Feta followed by Crumble and Custard. Many thanks to Jean-Michel and the catering/bar team.
