Topper open meeting at Island Barn Reservoir SC, Saturday 1st March 2025

Three intrepid members of the new Tammy Topper Team travelled all the way to Island Barn Reservoir SC for the first Topper Open Meeting of the season on the London & Southeast regional race circuit. This was also our first road trip to make use of the Club's new multi-stacker trailer and our fleet of race-spec Toppers - part-funded by Tamesis and local sports charity SporTedd. Thank you all!
On arrival, 40+ sailors on the first day of Spring were greeted by a heavy frost and thick fog. Fortunately, the sun burnt off the fog and Sandown Park stadium emerged from the gloom on the other side of the reservoir and after an early lunch the wind picked up sufficiently for the sailors to launch for three races in the afternoon.
It was very tricky conditions with patches of wind appearing in one part of the reservoir and then dying and then re-appearing somewhere else.Still, the sun kept shining!
Well done to Josie, Boming and Arthur for your tenacity and sticking with it all day.
Thanks to Griff for the towing and the IRBSC team for a super lunch, well-organised racing and the after-race teas.
