The forecast for the 5th GW Smith Trophy race was for thunder and lightning. Around an hour before the race was to start, the rain, thunder and lightning came. After a brief discussion with the few potential competitors, sheltering under the veranda and watching the rain fall, the decision was made to abandon the race on safety grounds, avoiding the risk of lightning strikes. True to form, the storm cleared, a wind came up and the sun shone, complete with a rainbow. By that time everyone was in the clubhouse, watching Andy Murray's exit from the Olympics and enjoying a drink or two.

Thanks to the team that turned up to run the race, John Adams and Tom Jones in the box, Andrew Craig and Geoff Malseed on the Patrol Boat.

Despite the weather, Jean-Michel and his crew of Jessica and Perry provided a very tasty supper of red wine braised steak with Champ potatoes and accompanied by an avocado, beetroot and cucumber salad and rounded off by Eva's pudding, custard and cream.

The overall results, Matt P-J leading in his Rooster 8.1 with Joe McLaughlin 2nd in his Solo. There are still 4 races to go so plenty of opportunity for changes.
