Finally some sailing! As the wind started to build for storm Isha, Race Officer Matt P-J ran both Blue and White series races for the intrepid souls who were not put off by the forecasts for later on Sunday or by the absence of hot showers. It was something of a challenging shakedown!
In the Blue races, Tom Low came out to play in a Club Laser and beat Jim Hamilton, Ilker and Alexey. Robin Broomfield crewed by Diane Keighley was first Enterprise. Ken Duffell crewed by Matt Valentine notched up a result in a Merlin.
Matt sent the fleets above Steven's Ait for the white races. The wind continued to build. Richard Harris capsized and retired on the first lap. Andy Harris, crewed by Tom, won the Merlins, Ken and Matty second, Travellers from Minima Paul Simon and Pavlov Pavlova C finished a creditable third. Chris Rowsell retired in the Enterprises with Robin Broomfield taking the honours. Matty Key won the Lasers in a battle with Tom Low.
Many thanks to Matt P-J, Richard Mason and Carolyne Vines in the box and Brian Harper-Lewis and Alastair Banks in the launch. Matt took to the dory with Jim Hamilton as the number of capsizes started to build.
Travellers and members enjoyed some fine sandwiches and a drink in the clubhouse afterwards. Many thanks to Jean-Michel and the kitchen/bar team.
