Tamesis Club Annual Regatta The club had a great turnout of members and visitors alike for the Annual Regatta. The National 18 Inlands which had been scheduled to run concurrently were postponed to a later date. The conditions were warm, sunny and breezy with the wind starting roughly SSE and working its way round to SW by the end of the day. Race Officer Richard Harris set course L going down as far as a Lensbury mark at the bottom of Trowlock Island. The wind was gusty throughout with F6 gusts. The course initially offered a very true beat. As the day went on, there were some tricky shifts and lulls in the "ski-jump landing area" beside Trowlock Island. Some 35 Entries signed on, and a few more arrived who decided not to sail on account of the challenging conditions. The biggest fleet was the ILCAs with 13 entries. There were 8 Merlins, 4 Solos, 2 N18s and a handicap fleet that included 4 Enterprises 3 Toppers and a Fusion II. In the ILCAs Tom Bull managed a clean sweep with three bullets. There was much battling for the other places with the final order of Lumiere Ng, 2nd, Marcus Chavasse 3rd and Peter Impey 4th. In the Merlins with one race to go, Matt Peregrine Jones and Arthur were level pegging with Joe McLaughlin and Sean Roberts. Matt managed to beat Joe in the third race taking the trophy. In third place were Tim and Ed Medcalf. In the first Solo Class Racing for some time at Tamesis, Mark Fryer won ahead of Tim Barr. In the Handicap the order was Robin and Anchalea Broomfield, Enterprise Minima YC, 2nd Alex Cane and James Budden, Enterprise Minima YC, 3rd James Lee and Vics Tranter Enterprise, Twickenham YC. 1st Topper was Flora Swinson-Howell. Charles Fox with Robert Blakebrough won the N18s in Genevieve. The kitchen and bar team were kept particularly busy keeping everyone fed and watered. Many members and visitors lined the bank to watch the lively entertainment on the water. Many thanks to all who in the race team, safety boats, kitchen and bar teams who managed to make the day a great success, including Richard Harris, John Meredith, George Barber, Martin Thomas, Mike Adams, Chris Pollard, Alastair Banks, Carolyne Vines, Peter Impey, Nicky Chavasse and Peter Fryer. |
