Island Barn Reservoir SC Topper Open Meeting 28th February 2026

Three intrepid members of the new "Tammy Seals" Race Team travelled all the way to Island Barn Reservoir SC - 20 minutes from Tammy in fact on the other side of Molesey!. This was the first Topper Open Meeting of the season on the London & Southeast regional race circuit.

Arthur, Max and Toby sporting their new RYA Pathway Club go-faster Race Bibs rigged up in the car park on what at ground level felt like a fairly benign spring day. Ten metres up at water level the wind was building and for the first 2 races of the day was gusting well over 20 knots - quite a baptism for the first event of the year and for Max, his first open meeting as a skipper sailing away from home! Needless to say there was a lot of capsizes right across the fleet of 35+ boats and some of the kids got quite a soaking. For lunch, double portions of homemade lasagne did a great job at warming them up and added a couple of extra kilos to help keep the boats flat. Fortunately the wind moderated, and the sun came out to lighten up the reservoir for some beautiful sailing for the 2 races in the afternoon.

Well done all for sticking it out. Showing up and getting to the start-line is a big achievement in itself sometimes.
